Omnipresent iPhone

Several more details have been released over the past few days surrounding Apple’s iPhone. As reported earlier, the iPhone will access YouTube via a new button on the home screen, offering full access to YouTube from the iPhone wirelessly. As we know, YouTube recently turned to open 3GPP and H.264 standards for encoding, ensuring open access to mobile devices.
Apple also has updated its iPhone website by adding several minor changes. The default signature “Sent from my iPhone” is now attached to each email sent – which will give Apple free advertising unless the user chooses to turn the signature off.
There are also unofficial confirmations about the iPhoto dock, which is similar to a standard iPod dock. The only improvement is that the new option supports the ability to recharge Apple’s own Bluetooth headset simultaneously.
Upon the release of iPhone with Mac OS X 10.4.10, Apple will offer free […]

Queen Elizabeth II Owns a Cellphone

The Queen owns a cellphone? Not only that, she also owns an iPod, although we don’t know if she’s ever put the white ear buds to her ear and listen to music she downloaded from iTunes.
According to Liz Smith’s column at the Baltimore Sun, Prince Andrew, her other son, younger brother of Charles, had given her the cellphone. What brand it was we don’t know.
Another thing worth noting is that the Queen also uses e-mail but she has them dictated and do not sit in front of the computer herself to write a reply.

iPhone Verdict: Beautiful, Breakthrough Device

Sure, it’s only exclusive to AT&T and it doesn’t even have video recording or MMS. But in case, the iPhone temptation is just too much for you, rest assured, even the experts are going gaga over iPhone.
Two expert reviews have been published recently. One was Walter Mossberg, who writes for the Wall Street Journal and the other is Steven Pogue of the New York Times. Both are well respected in the technology industry. Both tech columnists had been given functioning iPhones to test drive for a couple of weeks. The overwhelming conclusion is: the iPhone is very little hype and very much “substance.”
Here’s Mossberg’s column: It’s a really comprehensive review of the iPhone. If you’re planning to get an iPhone and take the dive into an AT&T contract, this is a must-read.
And so is David Pogue’s column, although the NY Times tech guru treated the matter a little lightly. Still […]

The HTC Touch is Just Like an iPhone

The iPhone’s latest rival, the HTC Touch is a real smartphone - not like the iPhone - with multi-touch user interface that is almost like the iPhone’s. Well, not exactly. The finger-swiping response is a bit slow. But the main problem is the user interface. It’s just like any Windows Mobile device, with an added 3D command commands. The navigation hasn’t improved much, and after you’ve seen the iPhone demos it might even feel more awkward than usual. Screen resolution is pretty poor, again compared to the iPhone. Well, you can see for yourself…

Two-iPhones Per Person Tomorrow

The iPhone will go on sale tomorrow 6 PM EST, and people who have staked it out for days at the Fifth Avenue store (unofficially, the only Apple or AT&T store in NYC where people are allowed to line up) can purchase a maximum of two iPhones. So the guy above (pic) David Clayman, may be able to purchase one for charity (taprootfoundation.org) and one for his father. See, if you took the trouble to stake it out on the Fifth Avenue iPhone line you’d meet some pretty nice people, no kidding!
That is Friday, first iPhone sale day. On the next day, Saturday, Apple stores will offer workshops for iPhone users. The most user-friendly phone in the world and they’re going to give a workshop teaching in-depth the ins and outs of the iPhone’s user interface, with a brief review, no doubt, about the exterior specifications.

Free 8GB iPhones for Apple Employees, Says Jobs

Steve just announced that Apple will be giving an 8GB iPhone to each of its over 17,000 employees, which amounts to an over $10 million dollars giveaway by Apple. The bad news is, Apple employees would have to wait for the last week of July. Still $10 million dollars is very generous of Apple, which just a $1.38% rise in its stock today at the first day of iPhone’s availability.
Today, Jobs also explained why the iPhone is not a 3G device. Officially, Apple wanted to save battery life and keep the iPhone slim.
Edge is good enough, but you wish it was a little faster and that’s where sandwiching Edge with Wi-Fi really makes sense because Wi-Fi is much faster than any 3G network.

But Jobs hinted towards 3G becoming standard in future iPhone versions. The EDGE connectivity on the current iPhone, Jobs said, is good enough for email, maps, […]

Hi-Tech Koreans Get RAZR2 First

Moto has released the RAZR 2 in South Korea from SK Telecom, the largest wireless carrier in the country. There will be three versions of the RAZR 2, and Korea will get the GSM V8. The V8 is 2mm thinner than RAZR and will sport a 2-inch external touchscreen with haptic feedback. The second and primary screen inside the fold out is 2.2 inches and will have twice the resolution as the external one.
The V8 will retail at about $630. Two weeks ago, it was reported that Samsung is in position to surpass Motorola as number 2 handset maker in the world. Motorola is hoping that the second generation RAZR with an external touchscreen will match the success of the first RAZR.

The iPhone Gets Too Hot

The iPhone is in public hands. You could see a lot of hand-on videos in sites like Engadget and Gizmodo. The new owners verdict: it’s pretty much as blogged and advertised. So, it’s not just hype. Blog Think Secret actually took apart their iPhone. They were very careful with the process, but it was a tragedy looking at the most beautiful cell phone ever built in pieces. PC World had the most creative idea. Why not scratch the screen using your keys. Hey, why not drop it on concrete.
So far, after thousands upon thousands have had an actual iPhone in their hands and operated it, it’s all been praise. Well, almost. There’s a problem with the iTunes activation process. Some people apparently can’t do it, even after downloading the latest version of iTunes. I had it on good authority that Macs which run an illegal version of OS X Leopard […]
