Sprint Arcade Offers New Mobile Gaming Features

Sprint announced the launch of the Sprint Arcade, a unique bundle of casual games. The Sprint Arcade, the first-ever subscription game channel in North America, allows customers to download multiple games powered by EA Mobile, the group within Electronic Arts that creates games for wireless phones, for one low monthly fee. The current list of games includes Sudoku, Mini Golf, Mahjong, Hearts, Air Hockey and Blue Blocks, with more to be added.

The Sprint Arcade is available on most data-enabled Sprint phones for $9.99 per month. To download, Sprint customers should select the Web icon on their phone’s main menu and type “arcade” into the search box. Standard data usage charges apply.

Verizon Offers Over-The-Air Firmware Updates

Verizon Wireless today announced new technology to deliver firmware software updates over-the-air to new handsets.

Customers will receive a message on their wireless phone indicating that a new handset update is available. They will be periodically notified to download the updated software package by following simple on-screen prompts that will guide them through the process in a matter of minutes. The technology will be introduced in some new phones starting later this year, and throughout 2008.

Firmware, or system software, on mobile phones is a program or set of instructions programmed into the hardware of the device. Updates of firmware can enhance the calling quality and functionality of a device.

Verizon Wireless today announced the upcoming availability of the Samsung Juke, a sleek and slim device that swivels to show off a music player that supports MP3, WMA, AAC and AAC+ files.

Hitting stores on October 19, the Juke is available in red, teal and navy blue. The Juke’s unique swivel-hinge literally flicks open 180 degrees to reveal the shiny keypad. A navigation thumb wheel allows for easy searching through music play lists, contacts and settings. Stereo Bluetooth support provides optimal listening for both headsets and separately purchased speakers. In addition, the Juke comes with a matching wired stereo headset and a USB cable in the box. The Juke’s other features include:

Nokia today introduced the Nokia N810 Internet Tablet, a pocket-sized device able to connect to Wi-Fi hotspots and Bluetooth mobile devices to make internet calls, check Google Mail or Facebook Accounts, watch videos on YouTube, update blogs using the device’s slide-out keyboard along with its touch screen, or find the way using built-in maps and satellite navigation.

With the ability to check emails, read the latest gossip online or IM to friends, share moods on favorite social sites; call via Skype, or get closer by the Gizmo video chat - with the integrated VGA camera - users will never be far away from those they want to keep in contact with.

Sprint today announced the upcoming availability of HTC Touch, a full touch screen Windows Mobile 6 device featuring integrated TouchFLO technology to smoothly navigate through menus with a finger swipe. In addition, TouchFLO cube brings a 3D cube interface allowing quick access to entertainment, communication tools and a “Dial-by-picture” photo caller ID screen.

The Touch leverages Windows Mobile 6 with Outlook Mobile for email integration, Office Mobile, Windows Live and the ability to run thousands of third-party applications. It also allows users to surf the web with Internet Explorer, send and receive emails, chat on Messenger and send files to their own web space through Windows Live.
