SMS M500 Phonewatch Gets an Action Video

Remember the world’s first cellular phone wristwatch we feature a couple months back? We’ve been wondering if anyone has actually bough one because we’ve been longing for a hands-on review of how the Dick Tracy has fared in the 21st century. We’ve almost run out of patience when someone recently posted a video demonstration of the debvice. We know little of the perpetrator except that he was the only person we know who’s actually bought an M500. His YouTube page gives us no clue as the only video found there is the same we’ve posted above.
The M500 is a GSM world phone with GPRS connectivity. It fits on your wrist like a real watch, so there’s no need to adjust your lifestyle just because you wanted to wear a phonewatch. It uses a touchscreen and SMS can be inputed by handwriting recognition or a virtual keypad. It plays MP3 and […]

First Celebrity Sighting With iPhone

We didn’t see Lindsey Lohan lining up in an AT&T or Apple store, but why is she carrying Apple’s breakthrough and totally breath-taking device? A gift from her agent? She paid someone to line up for her? Steve Jobs gave her an iPhone? However she got an iPhone, she’s the first celebrity sighted with one.
What will this mean to the former ultimate celebrity handset, the SideKick, is something we’re curious about here at Cellphones.ca? Any ideas?
If you want to know more about Lindsey and the iPhone, especially in the deeply psychological sense, try CrunchGear’s iPhone decoder. Simply copy and paste this article to the decoder and click “decode.”

Universal Cell Phone Charger Coming to China

It’s good of the Chinese government to make a one-size-fits all cell phone charger compulsory to all mobile phone manufacturers. It will come into effect this June. The purpose of having a universal charger for all cell phones is obvious: it’s a move to reduce wastage. The Chinese replace almost a hundred million (100 million) phones each year. Several cell phone manufacturers are already compliant.
Local companies like the idea. They agree that a universal charger will save design costs. It’s a different story with foreign brand makers. Redesigning cell phones to accommodate Chinese chargers will be too costly. However, Sony Ericssona and Motorola promises handset models with the new universal chargers. But no word yet about this from Nokia, the largest foreign supplier of cell phones to China.

Novelty Cell Phone Flask Now Available

If you’re dying to get away from the office but cannot, at least in the physical sense, you could take a relaxing pull of your favorite vodka from your very own cellphone flask. Although this novelty accessory doesn’t look anything like a cellphone that I would ever own, it does a good job of pretending to be one while you’re sucking fermented potato juice from the antenna.
Now, I’m not going to advise anyone to get one of these, especially if they intend to call, drink and then drive after, but there are days when one of these seem like a really good idea. It might even solve this problem. It’s 5 inches long, comes with a belt holster and keeps about 4 ounces of your favorite spirit. Price tag is $12.97 (I think the price is actually going up because of demand), available here.

Touch Message Data Transfer Coming Soon

It’s an alternative to the nearly-defunct infrared and the popular Bluetooth data transfer technologies, and it’s screaming “way cool!” The system uses the FeliCa (Felicity Card) chip developed by Sony for contactless smart card. If you still don’t have an idea what it is, this chip is used by Hong Kongers and Singaporean to pay for bus and train rides. It’s also the same technology that makes wallet phones possible.
It seems improbable that this same chip can also be used to transfer text messages, images, MP3 files and other cell phone data. Transfer rate is a dazzling 424 kbps. Expect this technology by Spring 2008. Transfer is limited only to non-DRM data. BMP and Flash videos will also be blocked.
