Motorola announces SURF A3100, Renew W233, and Tundra VA76r

Trying to start the year on a good note, Motorola has announced a trio of new handsets set to roll out in the early part of 2009. Well, not all of them are exactly new as the Tundra VA76r is already available via Rogers in Canada, but the next two are definitely new in the market.

The Renew W233 is the world’s first phone made from recycled water bottles and likewise comes with a carbon neutral footprint for those who want to minimize carbon consumption. The best part is that the Motorola Renew costs 20% less to manufacture which will hopefully translate with it being slapped with a very affordable price tag. The Renew is a testament to Motorola’s commitment to renewable energy programs. As far as its features are concerned, it comes with dual-band 850/1900 GSM/EDGE, CrytalTalk technology and supports microSD cards of up to 2GB in capacity. It may […]

T-Mobile BlackBerry 8900 Curve available starting February 11?

While the Canadian public may have received the BlackBerry 8900 Curve as an early Christmas present from Rogers, hopeful owners in the US have yet to see it become available through their local telecoms.

Well, if this latest bit of news holds true, next month might be the grand debut of the BlackBerry 8900 Curve as far as T-Mobile USA is concerned. Word is that it’ll become available starting February 11. It’s definitely late for Christmas, but is still a few days shy away from Valentine’s Day which makes it an ideal gift for your BlackBerry-loving partner albeit being a bit on the expensive side.
How much it’ll exactly cost is still anybody’s guess at the moment. Nevertheless, given that February 11 is still a whole month away, now is probably the best time to start saving up for it since we’re expecting that it definitely won’t be cheap.

MobileFile Pro brings Excel Editing Capabilities and More to the iPhone

We’re not quite sure what the status is as far as the Microsoft Web Office is concerned, but if you’re looking for a full featured Office-compatible app for the iPhone, you might want to check out MobileFiles Pro.

This new app from Quickoffice allows you to view your various Office documents, and for the first time, also allows you to edit and save Excel documents on your iPhone. It likewise comes with file transfer capabilities via WiFi making it much easier to move files to and from your iPhone and PC or Mac.
The full app is retailing for $9.99, but if you want to try it out for free first, they also have a trial version available albeit being very limited in functionality. I’m not sure how this will stack up to what Microsoft is cooking up, but for what it’s worth, MobileFiles Pro is at the very least available […]

Palm Nova-based Smartphone to feature Full Touchscreen, Slide-out QWERTY keypad

We’ve already heard that CES might be the venue where Palm will debut Nova, but now, we get more details as to what kind of phone will possibly carry it.

Based on a trusted source of Crunch Gear, it was revealed that the new Palm smartphone will feature a full touchscreen display with a QWERTY slide-out keyboard. It’s not exactly what you’d expect from Palm based on their track record of smartphones, but if there’s a time to break the norm, now’s probably the best time to do so. Word is that they will be turning to HTC again for this new smartphone who, in their own way, has earned a great reputation for manufacturing such devices.
Apart from that, nothing else was disclosed, but considering that CES is just a few winks away, we’ll get the official word on this one sooner than later.

Red iPhone doesn’t belong to (PRODUCT)RED family

Fans of Apple’s (PRODUCT)RED line might have noticed a certain red iPhone popping up on the interwebs, but don’t be fooled, this isn’t the real deal.

While it obviously has captured the proper hue of the (PRODUCT)RED series, this is just a 3rd party rendition as it obviously lacks the proper (PRODUCT) labeling at the back. Nevertheless, if you’re seriously looking for an eye-catching alternative to the common black and white iterations of Apple’s little wonder phone, then this definitely fits the bill.
You also won’t need to worry if it’s network-locked anymore as the iPhone Dev Team has certainly taken care of that dilemma with the release of the Yellowsnow iPhone 3G unlock.

iPhone 1seg TV Tuner from Softbank provides Mobile TV entertianment

Aside from the Orb Live app, those wanting to get their fair share of TV shows while on the go on their iPhone can now likewise get it courtesy of Softbank’s 1seg TV tuner.

This new accessory streams TV programs via WiFi to the iPhone thanks to an app provided by Softbank. Unfortunately, this only works in countries that make use of 1seg TV broadcast signals such as Japan, and as DVICE notes in their short time with it, does a pretty good job in sucking the juice out of the iPhone in roughly an hour’s time. Nevertheless, it seems to be a pretty decent mobile TV accessory as it has managed to impress the guys at DVICE despite its shortcomings.
True, while most of us will probably never get the chance to use this entertaining iPhone accessory, for what its worth, it just goes to show that a […]

Verizon selling BlackBerry Pearl 8130 for just $19.99, Storm for $199.99

The BlackBerry Pearl 8130 can definitely be considered an outdated model already with the Bold, Storm and Javelin out now, but if its modest feature set and looks still manages to get you all excited, then Verizon’s $19.99 offer might interest you.

A 2-yr contract is required to snag the BlackBerry Pearl 8130 at this ridiculously low price (after a whopping $100 mail-in rebate), but you better hurry, it’s only until supplies last. Considering how everyone is probably looking into getting the best deal for their money due to the economic crisis, this will most likely qualify as a great bargain however which way you look at it.
On a similar note, they’re also offering a $50 mail-in rebate for the Storm if a full touchscreen device is more of your cup of tea.

iPhone Dev Team releases Yellowsnow v0.9.4 iPhone 3G Unlock

If the newly released iPhone 3G unlock isn’t working out for you, the iPhone Dev Team has released a new version that might put an end to all your unlocking woes.

Yellowsnow 0.9.4 Beta is out now which addresses some complaints that have trickled in upon the release of the group’s first iPhone 3G unlock. By default, it’s now always in quick mode unless you enable the –l option for long mode. PIN support still isn’t quite there yet, but given how fast they were able to come out with this new iteration of Yellowsnow, I wouldn’t be surprised at all if PIN support would become available within the month.
If this new iPhone 3G unlock still doesn’t work on your end, send your complaints to the iPhone Dev Team here so that they can include an appropriate fix in their next release.

Fresh New Images of the Sony Ericsson C510 Cybershot phone surface

While we have yet to hear an official announcement from Sony Ericsson as to how much and when it will be released, the upcoming C510 aka Kate Cybershot phone gets showcased in these new leaked shots from Daily Mobile.

This is, by far, the clearest and most detailed pictures we’ve seen of the upcoming Sony Ericsson C510 Cybershot phone, and I must admit, it does look like a beauty. The SE C510 comes with a 2.2-inch QVGA display, 3.2-megapixel camera with autofocus, face detection, smile shutter, and LED flash, direct blog shortcut, quick access to YouTube, and a 160MB internal memory.

Confirming prior reports, it looks like it will be released in February, but as usual, nothing’s certain until we see the C510 out in the market already or we hear an announcement straight from Sony Ericsson’s mouth.

Google Mobile App with Voice Search for iPhone comes with Easter Egg

Easter Eggs in computer software isn’t exactly something new to the public, but an Easter Egg in an iPhone app is something you’d rarely chance upon. That’s what the Google Mobile app with Voice Search for the iPhone comes with; a hidden feature not many are aware of until now.

The Bells and Whistles option can be found if you continuously slide upwards until you get past the About option which is usually the last item in the Settings page. It’s actually just a set of enhancement features that allows you to change the color theme and sound alerts as well as a bunch of other stuff that the Google Mobile team did not mention so as not to spoil the surprise.
So if you’ve got nothing better to do and have the Google Mobile app with Voice Search already installed on your iPhone, then why not give this Easter […]
